Instagram post 2093935508328895846_268706522 When I was a girl I'd jump off walls with my arms spread, pretending I was flying. In planes I always want the window seat, and have the best time in the tiny 4 and 6 seaters, because I'm so much closer to the sky. Needless to say, I took the first opportunity to try skydiving, and I LOVED it. The experience was exhilarating; a highlight not just of my time in Cape Town, but of my entire 2018, and my 20s! I hope I can do it again, and you totally should too. Hit me up if you need convincing. 😉 ⁣

Instagram post 2083826314116532639_268706522 Noordhoek Beach, one of the many stunning places I got to visit in Cape Town. ⁣
⁣
Standing in the middle of the huge expanse of sand, cliffs at my back and marvelling at the fierce ocean crashing in front of me, I had one of those - I'm so small, the world, and God!, is so big - perspective-inducing moments. ⁣
⁣
Noordhoek is on my list of Things to Do if ever you're in the Mother City. You can read all the others - including tips on where to find penguins! - on my blog! ⁣

Instagram post 2080736449766290886_268706522 This just looks like a humble plate of scrambled eggs right? Well in fact it was one of the best things I ate last year! That's right people, of the whole year. This is enkulal fir fir, Ethiopian style eggs from an amazing restaurant down the road from my hostel in Joburg. I never used to be an egg person, and I'm sceptical about putting anything in my eggs at all, but I wanted to try something new. These were soft, creamy and very spicy. Along with the spongy tang of the injera, I was in breakfast heaven. ⁣
⁣
For more Joburg food favourites, check out the guide on my blog! And if you can remember, I'd love to hear about the best things you ate last year! Or more recently, if nothing sticks out from 2018. 🙂⁣

Instagram post 2078754176707781786_268706522 Spotlight on this amazing couple, Ashley and Thato, who welcomed me into their lives even though we met the same day they picked me up from my hostel! They took me around Soweto and Joburg on my last day in South Africa, and I'm so grateful for their warmth, kindness and hospitality. Here they are waiting for my kota to be ready from this random stall we found; we'd just finished lunch so no one was hungry, but they indulged my wish to try this classic dish before flying out. ⁣
⁣
You can read about kota, and all the other tasty food I ate in Joburg, on my blog. 🙂 I found some really great spots while I was there and have no interest in keeping them to myself. 😏 We gotta keep them open for my next visit. 😀⁣

Instagram post 2075528764120847906_268706522 Busking of the South African sort. ⁣
⁣
These guys were performing outside a restaurant my first afternoon in Joburg. I passed them on my walk around the neighbourhood, and thought maybe it was a special day, but they were there at least once more during my stay. Most of their audience was South African, which I found interesting since you wouldn't find Bahamians performing Junkanoo for one another like this. It speaks in part to the multiculturalism of their nation, and also (I think I can presume to say) the pride of the Zulu people. ⁣
⁣
For more pics of Joburg and recommendations of things to do if ever you visit, check out my blog! :) I'm so thankful I got to go, and am happy to share all the joys of my trip with you. ⁣

Instagram post 2073571067619975970_268706522 This is the "mystery dish" from Dig Inn. They bring their wares to the weekly Market on Main in Joburg, along with tons of other food, beverage and design vendors. I headed there basically straight from the airport, before I even put my bags down in my room! ⁣
⁣
I've written more about the market, and all the other things I got up to in Joburg, on my blog. If you never wanted to go to SA before you prob will now! ⁣
